1978年のジャクソンズのアルバム「Destiny」。ここから“Shake Your Body（Down To The Ground）”がヒット！そしてすぐマイケルのソロ“今夜はドントストップ”も全米トップ40入りしてきて、マイケル全盛期が始まった印象があります。

　But、「Destiny」からはこの曲“Blame It On The Boogie”が1stシングルだったんですね！邦題もアルバム同様「今夜はブギー・ナイト」と付けられたのですが…惜しくもトップ40入りを逃して、全米シングルチャート（ビルボードHot100）での最高位は54位でした。

いま聴いても、ノリもよくとってもカッコいい。

◆和訳で「えっ？」と思ったのは、
That nasty boogie bugs me,という歌詞の「nasty」。

辞書的には「nasty」は“不快”とか“人をいらつかせる”とかどちらかというとネガティブな意味の言葉ですが、調べてみると、スラングではその真逆の意味で使われるようです。
　“エグいくらい上手”　very good、excellent　など。

日本の若者が“ヤバい”って言うのと同じですね(;^_^A。

◆この曲の作者をみると…ミック・ジャクソン、デヴィッド・ジャクソン、エルマー・クローンの3者。“ジャクソン”が付くものだから、メンバーの作品かな？と思うと…まったくの別人。
　ミック・ジャクソンはイギリスのシンガーソングライターで、デヴィッドはその弟。そしてこの曲は本人が1977年にレコーディングしリリースもしましたが、もともとは、ミックがスティービー・ワンダーに歌ってもらおうと作った曲のようです。（Wikipedia情報です）

イギリスでは、ミック・ジャクソン版とジャクソンズ版が1978年9月に数日違いでリリースされます。英国の音楽メディアは、似たような名前のアーティストによるライバル版の存在に衝撃を受け、「ブギー対決」と称して取り上げたとのこと！

　ミック・ジャクソンはこの時のことを「大きな宣伝効果だった…メディアの関心は両作品に等しかった。例えば、私のバージョンが『トップ・オブ・ザ・ポップス』で最初にリリースされたのがそれだ…ジャクソンズ版は2週目もヒットした…ラジオ・ワンはジャクソンズ版を、キャピタル・ラジオは私のバージョンだけを放送した。公平だった」と振り返っています。

ジャクソンズ版はメロディー・メーカー誌では「自作曲」と誤って称賛された！ようですよ笑。

英国チャートでは、
ジャクソンズ版は最高位8位
ミック・ジョンソン版は最高位15位 でした。

ミック・ジャクソン自身もジャクソンズ版について、こう話しています。
「（オリジナル版には）僕たちの心と魂が100%込められていましたが、ジャクソンズ版には、それを信じられないほど素晴らしいものにする魔法の2%が加わっていました！。」

「blame it」を歌った最初のヒット曲は1963年の「Blame It On The Bossa Nova」でした。ビージーズは1975年、ディスコ時代にこの歌詞のコンセプトを取り入れ、「blame it」をブロードウェイの夜のせいだとしました。ジャクソンズがブギーのせいだと歌った後、80年代にはさらに多くの「blame it」が流行しました。
