2018年8月16日 アレサは 膵臓がんのため、ミシガン州デトロイトの自邸で天国に召されました。
今年が8回目の命日となります。

　このアルバムは長期の活動休止を経て　アダルト・コンテンポラリーの路線から大きく変更して、1990年代のヒップホップに加え、現代的なコンテンポラリーR&Bやソウル・ミュージックの要素が取り入れられます。この変更はレーベルのトップであったクライヴ・デイヴィスの手腕が発揮されました。
　
　アレサの持つソウルフルな音楽的基盤を大きく損なうことなく、様々なアーティストとの共演・コラボレーションが新しい層の聴衆とアレサを結び付けました。


◆アルバムのタイトルトラックである“A Rose is Still a Rose”。この曲の作者はローリン・ヒルで、彼女はアレサのために、音楽界のもう一つのバラ＝「Spanish Harlem」からインスピレーションを得てこの曲を書いたといいます。バラはどんなことがあっても…そして女性が「軽蔑されたバラや棘の冠」を被っていても、「それでもバラなのよ」と諭しています。
