最初にアルバム「Downhill From Everywhere」を通して聴いた際には、ゆったり、若干メキシカンな雰囲気なこの曲を気に入りました。タイトルも“The Dreamer”だし...！

でも歌われているのはハードでとっても社会的な内容でびっくりしました(^_^;)。

1st Verseで未来を夢見て国を越えてやってきた彼女は、
2ndVerseで強制送還されてしまうんです...。

◆“The Dreamer”というのは、「幼少期に親に連れられて不法入国し、米国で育った若者を指す呼称」だそうです。（アルバム「Downhill From Everywhere」ライナーノーツ 五十嵐正さん）

　2012年にオバマ政権が「DACA（若者移民に対する国外強制退去の延期措置）」政策を打ち出していたのに対して、2019年9月にトランプ大統領はその政策を撤廃しました。
　この曲は2017年12月にトランプ政権への抵抗の異を込めて発売された歌だったとのこと。
　メキシコ系米国人によるバンド、ロス・センソントレスとのコラボレーション曲。ジャクソンとロス・センソントレスのEugene Rodriguezによる共作になります。
