本日8月16日はエルヴィス・プレスリーの命日ですが、2018年の8月16日、アレサ・フランクリンもお亡くなりになっています。アレサ追悼として、この曲を取り上げます。

この曲、ものすごくカッコいい！
迫力のあるボーカルを聴かせてくれるアレサに応えて、思わず「Go！Go！」とこぶしを振り上げてしまいますよね！(^▽^)

◆アレサは1961年にはコロムビア・レコードからデビュー。60年代中盤から70年代前半にかけてヒットを飛ばし「ソウルの女王」とのニックネームも付けられました。しかし1970年代後半のディスコ・ブームの時代からは、ヒットに恵まれない時期が続きます。

　そんななかで、ナラダ・マイケル・ウォルデンのプロデュースのよるアルバム「フリーウェイ・オブ・ラヴ（Who's Zoomin'Who？）」で復活！ジョージ・マイケルとのデュエット・ソングも全米1位になりました。知らなかったのですが、彼女のウイキペディアによると「1984年より深刻な飛行機恐怖症に悩まされ、海外公演を行うのが困難になり、来日公演は実現しなかった」とあります。そうだったのか。

◆この曲のSongfactsページにあったのですが、ナラダ・マイケル・ウォルデンはちょうどこの時、ホイットニー・ヒューストンがデビューの時期になっており、ホイットニーの"How Will I Know（恋はてさぐり）"
とこの曲は並行して作られたそうですよ。

◆ビデオにも出てくる黒人男性のサックスプレイヤーは、そう！クラレンス・クレモンズ。ブルース・スプリングスティーンのE.ストリートバンドでおなじみですね。クラレンスも今は亡き人。彼も大好きなので、陽気な曲である一方で、寂しさも増します…。クラレンス、いや"Big MAN！"…安らかにお眠りください…！
